General information about your BMW E30 convertible top

• Our BMW E30 convertible top is designed just like the original.
• Thanks to the high precision fit of your new BMW E30 convertible top, a great look is guaranteed.
• No further stitching is required on the top.
• The cross-seams for the roll bar attachments are not visible from the outside on our BMW E30 convertible top. This means this seam cannot be damaged by mechanical stress.
• Our manufacturing method eliminates the risk of leaks from the soft top seams.
• The front edge of the roof is designed as a pocket at the corners. This simplifies the positioning of the BMW E30 convertible soft top and improves the adhesive bond. After bonding, the front edge of the soft top extends to just below the front rubber seal rail. This ensures mechanical fixation at the front edge of the roof.
• The seam on the right and left, running from front to back, is double-stitched and additionally heat-sealed. Thanks to this triple treatment, no stitching is visible from the outside (as with the original BMW E30 convertible top).

The rear window of the E30 convertible top:

• For your new BMW E30 convertible top, we use a window film approved for the original top, featuring an embossed test number. The window has the original thickness.
• The rear window is sewn in with an internal window frame using a double seam that runs exactly parallel.
• To prevent moisture seeping through, the window piping is heat-sealed to the film pane.
• We supply your new BMW convertible top with a clear pane as standard. We can produce your new top in a grey or green version if you wish.
• Depending on parking conditions, yellowing of the window film only begins after approx. 10 years, by which time your convertible top will already be worn out. This is because 10 years in direct summer sunlight takes a greater toll on the window film than parking in the shade, for example in a garage.
• By repeatedly polishing the window film with a good car polish, you can achieve better scratch resistance on the window surface.

Rear hem:

• As with the original BMW E30 convertible top, the rear hem of our BMW E30 top is reinforced with a metal spring. In addition, a further positioning strip is sewn onto the adhesive strip to prevent this hem from flipping upwards. 
• To prevent leaks of noise and moisture, sealing brushes are fitted in the lower hem behind the side windows, just as on the original convertible top.
• The seam edges are reinforced at these same points. If the reinforcements are missing, the seam edges may become worn by the soft top box lid.

Reinforcements:

• All internal reinforcements on your new soft top from our company are fitted in the same way as on the original BMW E30 soft top.
• Although the folding of the soft top is positively influenced by the reinforcements, these reinforcements are missing on simpler BMW E30 soft tops from manufacturers of cheaper E30 soft tops.
• You should also pay particular attention to the trims on the outside above the side windows, which, as with the original, are fitted to the E30 convertible top from our company.
• On simpler convertible tops, the trim is simulated by a decorative seam. These simplifications can be viewed as cheap and of inferior quality.

• With this BMW model, it is necessary to check the tension straps between the soft top and the frame, as the rubber bands on the tension straps become slack after a few years.
• In the case of a soft top with an electric drive, these tension straps must be replaced on the convertible version of your BMW E30. Only then is the necessary folding function ensured when opening the soft top.
• Please check the following before ordering:The rubber seal on the front edge of the convertible top only needs to be replaced if it is porous.
• The aluminium rail that supports this rubber is usually damaged during removal. 
• If you do not have the convertible top fitted by us, you should purchase this rail from your BMW dealer beforehand.
• Please also note that your new BMW E30 soft top does not yet have any creases in the bends of the soft top frame. As a result, the soft top frame must exert more force to fold the soft top when opening it. If your soft top frame has already developed significant play in the joints due to wear, the new soft top may not open and close smoothly at first. You should therefore allow the new convertible top a certain ‘break-in’ period and assist it carefully until the folds in the top fabric have settled in.
• We will be happy to provide you with the original part numbers for the rubber seal and the aluminium rail on request.
